牛皮卡纸，我国称为箱板纸，是纸箱用纸的主要纸种之一。国产箱板纸分为优等品、一等品、合格品三个等级。牛皮纸的质地坚韧，耐破度、环压强度和撕裂度要高，此外还要具有较高的抗水性。由于工艺及用料的不同，总的来说，大部分进口牛皮卡纸的质量要好于国产牛皮纸，尤其以美国产牛卡的质量为佳。检测项目有：定量、厚度、紧度、耐破度、耐破指数、环压强度、横向环压指数、裂断长、撕裂度、施胶度、水分、横幅定量差、横向耐折度等等。

瓦楞原纸是生产瓦楞纸板的重要组成材料之一。瓦楞原纸要求纤维结合强度好，纸面平整，有较好的紧度和挺度，要求有一定的弹性，以保证制成的纸箱具有防震和耐压能力。此外对水分指标要加以控制，水分过小，纸脆，瓦楞加工时会发生破裂；水分过大，纸软，会给加工成型带来困难。一般纸的含水量应控制在10％左右为宜。国产瓦楞原纸分为A、B、C、D四个等级。
